The morning after pill is an option if you had unprotected sex and just now realized that you didn't take your regular birth control pill.

MORNING AFTER PILL - HOW DOES IT WORKS ?

WHAT IS THE MORNING AFTER PILL, AND WHAT CAN IT DO?

Even though in the United States (and many other countries) the morning after pill is available without a prescription, it is recommended to consult a doctor before opting for this pill.

The morning after pill can prevent unwanted pregnancy as long as you take it within five days after unprotected intercourse. The morning after pill is a hormone based emergency contraception (containing a higher dose of hormones compared to a regular birth control pill).

The sooner you take the morning after pill, the more effective it is. The active ingredients in the morning after pill are Levonorgestrel (a second generation progestin) or the selective progesterone receptor modulator ulipristal acetate.

The morning after pill is not to be confused with the "abortion pill".
